35 Phaeton body width difference

I ran into something odd. Was there any difference in the floor pan width on the 35 Phaetons? I ordered a rear carpet to replace the rubber mat from one of the best known interior suppliers. I found that the carpet was too wide and hung over the aluminum door sills about an inch on each side. The difference was in the distance from the raised notch on the rear of the floor, out to the door. The distance from the driveshaft hump to the notch was correct. The carpet was made according to their pattern but they are trimming the edges off at no cost. Excellent people to deal with! There does not appear to have been any repair work or modification on the seat or body. Just wondering if there was any differences in the 35 bodies.

During the total rebuild of my 35 Phaeton, I came to believe through loads of correspondence , that the OZ built 35 Phaetons were identical (apart from a couple of minor parts) to the USA models. My L/B top fitted perfectly. Recently a friend of mine over here who is also rebuilding a phaeton only 3 body numbers from mine found that his top iron(cross piece) were 2 inches narrower than mine as were the timbers bows.
Now how can that be? As these cars arrived here from Canada in CKD form, we thought that they should all be the same. I will contact him regarding that pan width and will check mine too. Can you explain a little better as to which notch you refer too please.

Dave - Thanks for the info. That has got me wondering now what I have. The car is 95% finished. All I lack is installing the top (now realizing that it may be 2" short or 2" too wide), the carpet, and painting or powder coating the wheels. Ihave attached a pictuer of the floor pan with dimensions. When I tried to install the carpet, it hung over the door sills 1" on both sides. The little cutout for the notch was in the correct place. The difference is the 5-7/8" from the cutout to the door sill. The carpet measured almost 7". They are fixing that, so that's no problem. Now the top has me worried. My upholstry guy can't get to it for a couple of weeks. That's one thing I don't want to try to tackle. My top irons have been rechromed and put back together and the bows are done and installed. They seem to fit fine. If you don't mind, could you measure the top bow that had the 2" different dimension and let me know which one and what it measured. I'll do the same with mine.

Last Fall, I too have installed a new rear carpet in my 35 Phaeton and have the same issue with it over hanging the scuff plates on each side approx ½ “ ++

In reference to your drawing, my measurements are 19 1/2 '’ and 25 ¼’’ as compared to yours.

To minimize the over hang, I installed a 1/4” felt pad over the entire floor first and then installed the new carpet … still have an over hang but not as much… still working the issue.

I thought about the pad also. But it would have to be over an inch thick on top of the hump and zero on the sides. Not a good solution. Our dimensions are pretty close. But that doesn't explain the other cars being different. Still one of 'Henry's mysterys'.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you 35 topdown. My carpet dimension is 25 .5 inches, so that's close enough. The distance between the irons at the pivot point is 57 and 5/8 inches. This is the set that fit the L/B top.
hope this helps

The original floor covering in the '35 phaeton was a rubber mat with a jute backing about 1/4" thick. As for replacement carpeting, perhaps pattern creep has occurred. It is known to have happened over the decades that LeBaron Bonney have been producing upholstery for the hobby. (The floor dimensions in my '35 conform to those in your photo.)
