does anyone have an instruction manual or similar that shows how to set up a sparton horn so that it works.. Mine worked in the past but not now.. if I get it to work, do I have to continue to readjust regularly to keep it working?

Hello Kevinshea,

I struggled with this a few years back... my thread link: [ https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=325329 ]

I was able to adjust the sound by this method (see following)... and the two horns have been perfect since.

[ Turns out I have one other discovery that may help someone down the line... The points I was able to adjust with trial and error. I bridged the gap at the points with a needle tool while the horn was powered up... and then adjusted the points in this manner so that the horn sounded immediately after power was supplied and I found a bit of tone adjustment here too by doing so.]

Kevin, firstly do you have 6v on the incoming yellow wire? If you do, maybe there’s a problem with the outgoing bl/y wire and more specifically in the brush area on the end of the horn rod inside the harness at the bottom of the steering box. To test this if you get any piece of wire and touch the bare steel that connects the bl/y wire inside the horn , and touch the other end to earth on the car(eg bumper bar or side of the grill) , if that horn works fine then the problem likely exists under the steering box harness assembly. If your wiring harness is original style the yellow incoming wire is always live, and the earth occurs only when depressing the horn button to complete the circuit. A later style wiring harness will go through a horn relay to send the power to the horn. Just check if there’s nothing wrong with the horns first by grounding the horn as I described above

Ps , if it works be prepared for a (“horn fright”) as being right in front of it is very loud. Ask me how I know!
