'35 Hood question

I am in the process of figuring out how to install a hood on a '35. I understand that, with the help from at least one other guy, I insert the stainless strip "hinge" in the male support bracket on the cowl. Then I install the front male support into the front of the stainless trim "hinge" and bolt down the hood and the bracket as one assembly. My immediate problem is that when I put my repro hood ornament and the hood bracket, there is a gap under the hood bracket. It isn't shaped right. Where the back of the hood ornament bends down, it doesn't bend down far enough? Anybody know anything about this? Thanks.

If you are talking about the V/8 ornament perhaps you have a 36 ornament which is different than the 35 and would leave a gap like you describe

No. I don't have a '36 hood ornament. They are very different. Here is a close up of the gap that exists between the bottom of my repro hood ornament. There is a picture also of the bracket that goes on top of this hood ornament to receive the front of the hood hinge/stainless strip. I would put a shim under ornament but fear that the hood would be up that distance. 1/4" or 3/16". The rest of the hood ornament lines up nicely and seems to fit well. Stumped again.

That is one big gap. Is the Grille or the Radiator a Reproduction?

Take the Ford emblem out and loosen the front screw...secure the back- it will pull down, then finally tighten the front screw.

It is an original grill and an original, later '35 narrow tank radiators. The ornament is the re-pop. Because it is a re-pop, there is no front screw. The aftermarket blue oval i got, snaps in the gaps. If I try to "suck" up that space by tightening it down, it won't work. That stuff does not bend. I guess I will try and find an original hood ornament.

I have an old repop ornament and it has the center hole under the snap in Ford oval. Can't see how it would even stay in place without the front mounting machine screw.
