Hi everyone,

Another project: Removal & replacement of front & rear springs as they squeak going down the road.

Am considering removing them and installing the Spring Liner that comes in 20' rolls.

Is that fairly easy to do ?

If easy what are the basic disassebly steps ?

If I replace both front & rear springs who sells replacment spring sets ?

Allen, I've used the spring liner (lipped Teflon sold by the street rod shops) in all my old Fords. I usually eliminate the short leaf on the top because the Teflon liners take up about the same amount of space as the one top leaf. Clean your springs and use a grinder to bevel the ends of the leaves so they do not "dig' into the Teflon. When you take apart the spring you will see where the ends have worn into the leaves below.

Allen-

I can't speak for others but I have had disappointing experiences using teflon spring liner. The thin "white" stuff won't stay in place and works it way out rapidly. The heavier "black" material is thicker but as pointed out takes up space making the the entire spring assembly greater than the U-bolt length. Yes, you can remove a leaf or leaves but you are obviously weakening the suspension assembly.

This has worked for me; first, beveled the edges as suggested and second, lather the leaves with the grease that is used on truck fifth-wheels. Sorry, I can't remember a product name of the grease but I am sure someone on the board can supply you with a name.

Hope this helps.

I've had the black lipped liner from Bob Drake installed in my '46 springs for over 10 years and have only removed the top short leaf. Am very pleased with the ride and is better than without the liner.

You may just get away without removing the rear sping, just jacking up and restacking, Ive done it on my truck but a bugger of a job . I doubt it will work when you put the liners in. You will have to remove the springs and you will need a spring spreader to make it easy and do it properly. I havent tried the liners.

They make a teflon button you can put on the end of each leave, you drill a small hole part way through the end of the spring, and install the teflon button , adds no thickness to the spring pack,
