35 Ford wire wheels on 39 ford hubs?

I just bought a 37 Mullins trailer. I plan to change to 40 Ford hubs, minus the brakes and run 35 Ford wire wheels. Do I need wire wheel adapter rings when the wheels are bolted directly to the hubs? Thanks in advance. I appreciate the help.

YES. The 1928-1935 wire wheels are designed to be supported at two levels. You could probably save money running a worn out set off drums/hubs from 1928 (not AR) to 1935.

Thanks Charlie, I went through the jalopyjournal thread, got out a wheel and a set of rings I happen to have. Just place a ring on the back of the wheel and right away it's obvious that they are necessary. Thanks again. Tom
