35-37 pickup fender braces

I have 1 rear front fender brace and none for the rear fenders. I got some from a guy on here and none match my truck. Was wondering if looking at these pics you could tell me if they are wrong or? As you can see the one brace I removed from the front fender does not match the one that was sent to me and the rears do not line up with the holes? He said I could send them back if they are wrong but I wanted your opinions first.

Your original rear front fender brace is correct. It was angled on both ends so it could be used on either side. Your rear fender brace looks correct but it should be turned 90 degrees. It attaches thru the 2 holes in the body, not the one in the frame.

So the rusty front brace is correct and the black one is not? Exactly how were the rear braces attached? You say rotate them 90. None of the holes in the pic are frame holes. They are all bedside/fender holes.

Here are some photos showing the positioning of the brace.

Here is an enhanced photo showing the fender portion in grey. I am showing pictures of my panel delivery so the inner fender area is different. but the brace (50-16341) is the same.

Ok, Lawson sent me this pic of his and you can see that I am holding it up to the correct locations, same as his but my bracket holes are way off. The holes in my bed/fenders are correct as they line up as they should. First pic is his, second is mine. You can see that mine would never work. Could these be aftermarket brackets that are just made wrong?

Yeah, I think you could add some material to the leg of that brace and make it a bit longer, then redrill your holes.
I might run into the same problem when I do the final fit of my fenders. If I brave the cold, sleet, snow, and freezing rain tonight to go out to the garage I'll take a look at mine.

Here are my measurements. 2 1/4 inch between holes. Obviously not correct for 35/37 truck. Also they round up at the edges and most I have seen are flat. Now about my front brace. The rusty one is off of my truck. It has a much tighter bend to it and the mounting holes on one end are different. I know all this can be altered but I want factory correct parts. Do you agree that all are incorrect and I should send these back and look for correct replacements?

As was pointed out by Don, the rusty front fender brace is factory correct. The black one is a useless repro.

Al, why not post some pictures here on this thread of the correct fender braces as they are bolted in place, on your Dearborn awarded '35 pickup, so Vanspeed can see exactly what he is asking questions about?

Per JM's suggestion, here are some photos of left side front and rear fender braces. The passenger side is a mirror image of the driver's side. The rear fender brace bolts to the bottom of the bed, and does not attach to the frame. The front brace has double holes to allow its use on either side, as mentioned earlier by Don. By the way, the Dearborn Blue on this truck is virtually black when viewed indoors, and just right outdoors in the sun. The camera flash makes it appear incredibly light.

VanSpeed, I notice that there is a part tag on your replacement front fender brace. Can you read the number on it??

Thanks Al, I must admit I was also very interested in seeing exactly what those braces looked like and how they fasten in place. Don's Panel Delivery pictures were not making it totally clear in my mind how things would look on a '35 PU even though they may be very similar or nearly identical. I also had another reason :). I have several boxes of fender braces that appear to be very similar in size and configuation to '35-'36 passenger car fender braces, but they are slightly different and somewhat longer, so maybe they are for '35-'36 commercial vehicles??

I have to tell everyone here that may not have seen Al's '35 PU at this years EFV-8 Club's Eastern National Meet, in Charlotte/Concord, NC, just how beautiful this truck really is, and how great of a job Al did on this very very nice high point restoration, getting the Dearborn Award on it first time out being judged. The Dearborn Blue paint is gorgeous especially in the sunlight and just happens to be my absolute favorite early Ford V-8 color. I own a '35 tudor sedan with most of its original Dearborn Blue paint, and I can still see my refection in the side panels when taking a picture.

Anyway, congradulations Al on a job well done!

Wow, great pickup Al! And thank you for the pictures, they are a great help. I got the braces from a fellow barner here who said he bought them from Bob Drakes NOS department. Could the rears be for a passenger car? Just a thought.

I am sending these back to him and back on the hunt for original correct braces. Glad this thread kept going. much appreciated to all.
