i AM FIXIONG TO (translation FOR YOU YANKEES"-- "about to undertake the task) of replacing/repairing the door lock assembly on the driver's door on my 1935 Ford Pickup... any booby traps to watch out for. Seems straight forward.)

You have a key door lock assembly on your driver's door?
Do you mean the driver's door internal lock mechanism? (where you push down or pull up on the door handle to lock the door)
If that is it, it should not be hard to remove and evaluate condition. Remove handles, remove door panel, remove screws and slide out through the opening. You should have the window cranked up.
Hope this helps.

Can you weld? When I rebuild the latch some of the case lugs break off so a touch of weld is needed to lock the case back together. Also weld up and reshape the worn down areas on the cams. Dont pry the coiled spring off the case unless you have to actually replace it. Without a press and a crimp die it’s really hard to get it to lock in without breaking it. There is a flat spring plate that is usually missing or badly worn. They are impossible to find but you can make one from a brake pad retainer (stainless sheet metal type) for a ford F350.

I have found that if you heat the tabs red hot before disassembly and allow them to cool they can be bent without breaking. Then after being disassembled heat them red hot again and lightly hammer anneal them, and they are good to go to be bent for re-assembly.

I can Weld "after a fashion" AS WE SAY DOWN BELOW THE M.D. LINE. Will give it a shot.

Is this flat spring you refer to something that can be used "as is" or is it something you can modify to work?
