35-37 cab wood

My wood showed up today, still got some more metal work to do on the cab before I can use it. While I'm wrapping that all up I had some questions regarding prep of the wood.

1) are the finger joints supposed to be glued together

2) what should I coat the wood with. I thought I read they should be painted black, or should I stain them black and use a marine varnish. Not sure I want the wood to be able to soak up moisture. Another idea if it's supposed to be black has anyone used a por-15 type paint with success on wood since that is a pretty durable paint.

3) should these wood parts be isolated from the cab and frame with rubber pads or strips.

There was practically nothing left of the original wood so don't have anything to go on regarding what's all supposed to be there so any other tips or info would be appreciated

As for the wood --
1)finger joints should be glued
2)you can stain it and then seal it. Ebony is the color stain.
3) there were body pads -- very similar to the ones that are used on the radiator. Roy Nacewicz has a good examples. Also, they were stapled to the wood. When I removed my cab (years ago) the pads were attached to the wood with staples. (no one will know except you on re-installation)

Got this body to frame welt with adhesive backing from Macs a few years ago. The welting on my 39 pickup was between frame and wood only, nothing between cab and wood. The welting is 1/8" thick and 11/2" wide. My pieces were 2 1/2 inches in length with holes for cab to frame bolts. Don't know if earlier were the same but this is what was on mine. Have a 20 foot roll if you want some.

Thanks fellas. Grandpa may have that sort of woven stuff laying around. I'll look around. Right now I'm chasing my tail trying to get the warps and dents out of the rear cab panel where some silly man had the nerve to treat the truck as a truck just throwing crap in the bed. I'm probably working on a panel beyond my skill level, its coming along but like I said I chasing the dents across the panel. I probably should have tried to just make a panel with a slip roller.
