34 w/s question

Trying to get my windshield frame ready to sent to the chromers. My question is should I try and remove the upper arms that attach to the hinges? I first thought these were held to the frame with 3 bolts, but I now see that they are also spot welded. Why? My original thought was I would like to have everything stripped off so the frame would be worked without any obstacles sticking out, but now I don't know if I want to mess with taking them off. What are your suggestions? Also someone has drill a small hole on the inside part of the frame. how should this be filled? Brazed or welded? Thanks for your suggestions.

Huffy, This may not help but my 3cents..I had to take my frame apart to replace the glass, the corner screws would not budge, I ended up drilling them out, once apart there were heavy metal corners tapped to accept the screws. I had to make new corners, drill and tap etc. (big Pain). My top hinge plate screws are the same, they wont move. I ended up just leaving them be since my car is a standard with painted frame. I do see what looks like spot weld where you mentioned but it makes no sense since there are three screws, maybe some other barners will kick in, Good luck Ken

I did not remove the top hinge brackets on my '33 windshield frame and the plating turned out perfectly.

Had a 33 grille plated years ago that had some small holes drilled in it and the chrome shop had me fill them with silver solder . They said it plates well and doesn't require the heat of welding . Dunno if this is still practice but it worked well . David J

Had my '34 w/s rechromed by Walker in Shasta CA, my hinge brackets were also spot welded...no problem. Also, I too had to drill out the corner screws and replace the angled corner braces. It was a PIA, but with any luck, never again.
Cheers!!
