I have tried a number of parts shops for a pair of 35 12volt horns for a friend that's restoring a 35 coupe ( apart from 12 volts) can,t seem to find any so has anyone any leeds ?? your help appreciated . thanks , can mail me direct please , antiqueford@xtra.co.nz, only 1* here this morning ,

Some folks use 6-volt horns on 12-volt power but it makes them really loud and the tone suffers a lot. A person could try a dropping resistor in the line to get it back down to near 6-volts but the system should have a relay in that case. Relays are used on all the more modern 12-volt car horn systems anyway. I've seen more than a few folks use this type of electrical modification.

My '47 had a stock 6v relay. Regardless, would think one could find a pair used or reconditioned 6v horns, use a 1956 Ford 12v relay (avail at NAPA) and dropping resistors between the relay and each horn as suggested by rotorwrench. I may even have a set of resistors.

No One makes these horns specifically for 12-volt use. Be aware that some of the repops are not anywhere near the quality of the original parts. I would find originals and repair them before trusting a repop but that comes from past experience with reproduction electrical parts.

My Pop's old 35 only had one horn since it was a standard tudor sedan.

Sacramento Vintage Ford sells a 12 volt 1935 horn. Can't tell of the quality. I once bought some plastic bodied 12 volt 34 horns and just used the horn (********) motor in an original 34 horn and it works ok, even though the sound is not like the original. But it works to scare the dogs off the road.

I stand corrected but also skeptical. I've seen the plastic parts in some of the reproductions. There may in fact be no difference between the 6 & 12-volt horns even though they are marketed that way.

See todays posting of our patina 1934 Ford 4-door Sedan...using a 12V battery POSITIVE ground, 12V bulbs, extra resistor to original coil, Diode instead of cut-out so battery still charges with original 6V generator (may have to add resistor to field), original 6V starter, original 6V horns wired in SERIES seems to work ok....

Drake, Sacramento. Maces , etc all out of them , looking at a pr of orig ones on NZ e bray as a possibility & resistors, Thanks
