34 ute on ebay

...
I think why the guy with the ebay ad is not showing the rear when it was in one piece before being dismantled is because it a hack job out of a coupe.

See the farmer job overhanging wood tray.... the original coupe ute was all steel moulded with the body lines.

And that first pic is not the same car as the 2nd on...

Except, the auction does show photos of the rear of the car. If you compare the belt-line on the auction car to that of the complete one posted here on the thread, they certainly look the same to me. It even has the same funky quarter window shape as the car in the brochure photo. The missing bed sides look like they'd tie in to the cab at the same place as the brochure photo car.

Interesting info. I never knew there was a wooden 304 model.

Still does not explain why he has a different car in pic one.

The car in the additional pics added is the car in second pic.

I wonder what condition the quarter panels are in ?

I suppose I just jumped the gun without thinking, as I am getting tired of come on BS ebay ads, with the first pic being a complete or restored car and the price tag very appealing, until you go into the ad and it says ..........the first pic is what this car COULD look like....

Perhaps you could go and talk to him Pooch he just around the corner from you Ted

Good idea Ted, I will be in Sydney this weekend .

But I do have a lead on a 5 window 34 coupe which I would prefer for less money.

Here are 2 pictures of the Lew Bandt 34 Ford Ute creation. It was made by cutting down a 1933 Ford Sedan and is all wrong. Compare the shape of the rear side windows to that of the genuine 34 Ford Coupe Utes. The Rear is too short and is all out of proportion. It is just a pity that this Ute is promoted as an original 1934 Ford Coupe Ute.

The Lew Bandt "creation" is used extensively by Ford Australia in their advertising for new Ford Trucks, as seen here in this advert for the current Ford Ranger.
If only they could use a genuine 34 Ford Coupe Ute, the advertising would be that much better.
Maybe, Ford Australia should buy this genuine 1934 Ford Coupe Ute that is for sale on eBay themselves?

Looks like the first picture is the car "as found" with the subsequent pictures showing the car in it's present condition, restoration started, grille repaired, etc.

Sure would have been nice if he had better pictures of the quarters than just the one showing them leaning against the barn. Wonder if the other pieces are the front panel and gate.

Never will have a chance at a car like this; but sure like to look at the pictures and see how they were constructed.

I think what you think are quarters is a repo tailgate skin leaning against the old skin.

Sure, now I see that one picture is the old gate with a new one leaning against it; but think the panels with the wheel wells would be the quarters. Looks like the whole back end was wood framed.

What most people don't understand is that there were two distinct Ford Coupe Utes offered. One was the Type 304 Style Side like the Green Ute, which had the Side Boards and was a very practical vehicle for Tradesmen. The other was the Type 302 Well Side like the Red Ute, which has a much cleaner look about it, however, for Tradesmen, they weren't as practical. The main difference with regards to sheet metal is in the height of the rear quarter side panels and Tailgate. The Ute on eBay is the Type 304 Style Side, and has the lower side panels, and lower Tailgate. Check out these two Ute, and you will see that the Side Panels on the Green Ute are in line with the side "D" Mould, while on the Red Ute, the Side Panels are much higher. When restored, the Ute on eBay would look like this Green Style side Ute.

For the benefit of our American Friends who may be confused when we say that the genuine 1934 Ford Coupe Utes used Coupe Doors, while the Lew Bandt creation used Sedan Doors, please refer to the attached pictures, and study the "D" Moulds on these 2 photos. The top photo shows the Coupe Door. Notice the narrow Moulding that starts out with a "dart" on top of the "D" Moulding and tapers towards the rear of the door. Now check out the second picture of the Brown Sedan, and you can see that this "D" Moulding is the same wide width the full length of the door. The reason why the 2 different Mouldings treatment is that on the Sedans, Ford Australia used the carry over 32 Ford Sedan bodies with modifications in 1933 and 1934. The 1932 Ford Sedans had this wide moulding. However, on the Coupes, Ford Australia imported the rear quarters which had the narrow mouldings. So that the respective bodies fit, they made the changes on the front doors to line up with the rear Mouldings.

This ad keeps getting pics added.

First time I have seen the quarters.

I believe they've been in the eBay listing this entire time; certainly since the first time I clicked on it a few days ago.

...Ford Australia used the carry over 32 Ford Sedan bodies with modifications in 1933 and 1934...

That explains why the rear section on the Ford Australia re-creation looks like a US '32 sedan. I was wondering how everyone could be "confused" and think that rear window and quarter windows were '33/34 sedan. You guys must've had some pretty oddly proportioned and shaped cars over there back then.
