34 pickup cowl lace/hood hinge bracket

Thanks for input. My cowl is flat where the lace would go so it looks like I would need to use the “h” or “dumbbell” style lacing instead of the round or oval. I recounted the holes and there are 7 on each side that are various distances between them (6-8 1/2” apart). The bottom of my cowl near the frame rail has 3 slots for J hook attachment.

I also have, in a box that came with the pickup, some of the “h” style lace along with a baggie full of brass split rivets.

My plan now is to use the “h” style lace on the cowl after adding a J hook on the lower ends and then sourcing proper sized pan hand screws to fit existing 7 holes in the cowl. Sound about right?

So I test fit the “h” lace and closed the hood to find that hood has no clearance to the cowl. Metal on metal. The H lace is thinner than round lacing. I’m guessing H lace is older stock and has collapsed or shrunk. Back to plan A and will use round lace.

If the core of the lacing is off white, which it appears to be, it isn't the dark hard core stuff used originally and even if it is the right thickness when installed, it will soon start to collapse from the weight of the hood and the downward pressure exerted by the spring-loaded hood latches. Evidently the hard core manufacturing process isn't environmentally friendly.

You may have to periodically add something like 1/16" body to frame webbing underneath it to restore its height and the fit of the hood.
