34 Hood Assembly tips?

Would someone tell me the right way to assemble a hood on a 34 ford, I got it together but it sure wasn't easy. I think I'll probably take it apart again for paint........so....Do I put the top halves together first, then the sides? Is there anyway to align or clean the center top hinge?

If this draws much response it will be another snake oil thing . That said I put the sides on first and the center hinge last . If you have parts in good order it shouldn't be hard . Clueless on what you mean on the top hinge thing as it is a riveted - slip on thing .

Yes, the hinge (curved part) is welded to the each top side piece, with the SS "C" piece joing the two. Either the top side pieces are full of old rust and crud, which I don't know how to remove or I need a new SS center piece.

The center stainless " C " piece just slides off . If you have rust-crud in there it may be a bit of a pain but it is meant to just slide off . Once it is off you can get in there to do whatever cleaning you need to do . If the ends are bent-crimped or whatever you will need to open the end you want to slide the hinge out of . Bob Drake sells a nice repop of this . Not a Drake spokesperson but good stuff is good stuff .

Hi all; I use an electric drill on the side rods with lots of non-silicone lube. Watch for paint/primer in the rod hinge holes. Center strip should slip on easily. Newc

Thanks! I'll try this and also look at the SS center carefull. The sides to the tops are very good, seems like just the right amount of being tight.....but the center is really tough and the panels look straight.

the centre s/s hinge should slide easy , the 2 side hinge pins- 1/4"rods i usually change them and replace them with 6mm s/s rods , they are slightly smaller in diameter than the imperial 1/4" rods and slide thru easier

thanks Phil.........I just wonder if it is possible to purchase a drill bit for the top hinge. As an electrican we have some wall bits that are about a meter long, guess it would be like line boring the top hinge...
