Thank you Ken, but what I am asking is not what would be correct from an original stand point, but what would be better from a performance stand point, taking into account modern gas, heads milled a bit, etc. I have VB-13.

I would still go with the 40-b. In any case.Ifyou run a 68 you will have to find a flat-top coil and dist, totally diff than early 36-34. ken ct.

Go with the 40b,
I tried the 11a advance and while then eng ran OK it just didn,t feel nice.
Put the 40b in and what a difference, smoooth eng and good fuel economy.

I recall reading some posts here that said putting an 11A ('41) shaft assembly, and late '36 to '41 points plate & points into the the '40 and earlier helmet type distributors, gave a better advance curve with improved performance and fuel economy. Now I'm confused. I was planning to do this on one of my '35 distributors and try it in my '35 fordor sedan. I had also read that the 68 shaft assembly, from late '36 to '40, was also an improvement for the earlier helmet distributors but not as good as the conversion to the 11A shaft assembly. Can someone please help clarify this for me one way or the other? I will do a search to see if I can find some of these previous posts I recall reading.

Guys, as time permits i would be happy to test the curve on each of the different types.
I have ran each and every one and they are very close in curve and actual max advance degrees.
Will get us a factual test chart going as we build the helmets.....

Bubba, that would be some awesome information if you would run the curves on 40, 40B, 68, and 11A shafts with their respective stock counter weight design and with all else being equal.

Yea Bubba that would be interesting to see the results,Take it easy with the work, hope your back works out for you. ken ct.
