So after a summer of searching for someone to set up my distributor in Southern NH I was guided to a gentleman recently retired who had the machine and the know how,Thanks Tommy C....and Dad thanks you too. Took it for a few mile test ride so far so good.

Couple questions, I would like to know the correct plugs to buy and where to get them. I have champions in it, 48-12405-A2
Found the original boxes in the shop imagine that with 1 plug still wrapped in the wax paper. Can these still be found or do I need to get a cross referenced newer model?

Second question, Sterling wheel play. Going down the road there is about 10 inches of free play in the wheel. Is there a way to adjust this out?

Thanks for all your various posts to determine what was needed to get her running.

Terry from So. NH.

The original plugs are Champion 7 they are a three piece plug that can be disassembled. the top of the plug has a brass cap. After 34 Champion also made the 7 plug in one piece that can not be disassembled and do not have the brass cap. These later plugs can be used in the engine or other plug manufacturers also have plugs to fit and work properly such as NGK
The 6com shown above is for the 1935 commercial vehicles I believe it is a bit hotter than the 7 due to commercial driving stop and go.

Thank you Glenn,
Much appreciated. In your experience what would be considered a normal amout of free play I should be shooting for?

You're welcome!

I'd shoot for 1.5 to 2" maximum. If you can't get it close, you probably have worn parts.

Glenn

You also need to check the tie rod ends, drag link ends and king pins and make sure that they are all in good condition.

As Terry notes, the original plugs were three-piece Champion 7s, but as you can imagine, new ones are relatively scarce and priced accordingly. The one-piece Champion 7s are more readily available and less expensive when you find them (ebay, swap meets, The Swap Meet section herein, the V8 Club website classified ads, etc.

The use of Champion 7s is predicated on the original configuration of your engine (original cylinder heads, intake manifold and carburetor, and distributor). If one or more of those engine components have been replaced, different plugs might be a better choice depending on the specifics of the replacement.

Yup, running a rebuilt Ford 94 carb. I understand s/b a 97 for the 34.
Would be nice to replace with the 6com champions that are in it. 48-12405-A2. So far I see 40-12405-C,
Are available , don't know if they are the same temp etc.
Thanks TerryS

40-12405-C should be the one piece Champion 7. The original carburetor for the 34 is a Stromberg model 40. For 1935 the model 48 and for 1936 the model 97. If your interested in an original rebuilt I suggest you contact Max Musgrove who is the Stromberg technician. Tell him you would like one with original appearance. Nearly all of the carbs you find at swap meets are an amalgam of parts from different years.

Terry, also on the carb. Have already had the 94 rebuilt locally. Spent to much on that may as well use it till something comes up. Might have one of the Strombergs in dads barn, will look there first.

Thanks again for sharing.
