33 sedan Deluxe 2 questions.

I have 2 questions for you all about my clients 33 Fordor Sedan Deluxe. 1st. The engine is apparently a 36 (21 stud) when I removed the exhaust manifold on the pass. side coolant came out of one of the front long bolts. Is this normal and ok?
2nd. The rear brakes are completely covered in old gear oil. Is this primarily from bad seals in the backs of the drums or should I be looking for other culprits?
Thanks for any help. JR.

Coolant out of an exhaust bolt hole is never a good sign. The grease on the rear bakes could be a bad hub seal or bad inner axle seals. The latter requires the disassembly of the rear axle housings.

There are some stud hole that go into the coolant passage. When you put it back together make sure you use a good sealer. Seals are probably the issue at the axles, pretty common!

Seals inside the ends of the axle casing and in the drum. One is easy to do, the other requires axle striping. Guess which ones normally get changed.
Sealer on the exhaust bolt, and cross your fingers. Sometimes that's all that's needed. The other times you don't want to know.
Martin.

Thanks folks! I hoped the sealant on the exhaust bolt would work. Kind of what I feared for the axle....Looks like a tear down might be in order.

Update: The sealer on the exhaust bolt worked! Have driven it several times and all is well. also, tore the axle down to change the seals. No big deal, and found a bad carrier bearing while I was in there so glad I went.
Thanks for all the help!!! JR.
