33 Pickup gas leak.

Looks like the filler pipe is leaking where it goes into the tank on my 33 ford pickup. It’s a steel tank. What seals it? O ring? How do you get the filler tube out? Can it be done without pulling the tank? I maybe can pull the wood up from box to get at it.

Originally a lead O ring sealed the filler tube against the tank opening.

Unless someone previously removed the original steel floor of the bed, removing whatever wood has been added on top of the steel is a waste of time.

You will need a spanner wrench to loosen the outer sleeve. Once it is loose the neck should pull out. Many of the V-8 parts vendors carry the lead ring.

You can try .Order 2 lead seals just in case while you're at it.When I did it in a '35 sedan I had yrs ago I installed a new Drake tank and after assembly it dripped.I cranked on the collar one last time and the leak stopped .Keep in mind as all parts were new.

Good idea after removing neck to clean all dirt and rust from the two flat sealing steel surfaces before reassembly with the new lead washer.

I was warned to NEVER put a sealer on the threads, they'll lock up. Maybe a bit of never-seese? Just those lead rings. Newc
