33 motor

Well , I must be inline for the dunce of the week.my 33 has been running like a humdinger since I fixed the engine, but after about 8oooklms it got a piston noise when cold, went away as soon as it warmed up,so I got the head off yesterday to have a look, and found that I left a circlip out on one cyl,,now has a score down the bore,
So eng out today and a rebore is required,
This was real nice eng ,no blowby or fumes even, I was tempted to just put the new pistons in the scored bore ,but sanity prevailed.

Ah! The simplest things that can undo us. I had a '42' relieved block engine that had a circlip come loose and a small chip off the gudgeon pin wedged itself between the piston and the cylinder wall. That block is now waiting for me to buy my first boat that needs a mooring anchor.

Man I hope mine isn,t that bad,
Looks like .060 will fix it.

I had a new set of EGGE pistons to put in,I too thought about just dropping them in,but the clearance was .004,

It is a real nice LB block,
I take it to the macchinist tomorrow and see if it will clean up at .050 with ofseting the bore .

In my opinion, .004 is perfectly acceptable. It's a flathead for goodness sake. It would run forever like that, and you will never know it. Again, I would not even bore it, but that's just my opinion. If $ is no object, do what makes you feel the most comfortable about your decision. It'll run just fine though.
