My 33 developed a mysterious miss,
It would run cold fine, but but when it warmed up it would miss fire on pulling from slow speed, it would run fine at speed and accelerate fine on the hiway,
but as soon as you slowed down for an intersection or the likes it would miss like mad until it got a little speed up.
I noticed that when it missed the amp meter went crazy, so I assumed it was in the primary circuit of the ignition.
so, I did some diagnosis , bypassed the sign switch, same, checked all wiring from the switch to the resistor and coil, same, so looked inside the distributor ,it looked fine.
Took the distributor and coil assy off,
I find some oil on the coil HT area, but thought this would not make the amp meter go crazy as it was on the secondary side.
Looked a little further and deeper. oil on the firing points and burned contacts.
Looks like the front bush being a bit worn lets a bit more oil past.
So, I set the distributor aside to be repaired tomorrow and fitted one of my o/hauled spare distributor and coil assy,
Also changed out the condenser as it had a loose terminal.
Hey presto, engine is back to its usual self and will happily pull from around 10 mph in top with not a miss.
My thoughts are the oily and burned points would cause them to not work then work, like turning the ignition on and off, hench the fluctuating amp meter.
Funny though, it was fine when at speed .
