33 horn rod dimensions

I am not able to finish my horn rod rebuild. Unable to find the exact length and somebody had cut my horn rod before and made it shorter. I enclose photos of what is going on. The rod measures 42 inches from the bottom of the horn button to the end and is missing the square shape end that attaches to the spider. I was able to make the distal end and now have to weld them together but before doing so I need the exact length. Can somebody provide these 2 dimensions please?:

1) Total length measured from the bottom of the horn button to the tip and
2) The length of the squared-shape tip.

Your help much appreciated. Thank you. Manuel

Hi Manuel, I have a 34 horn rod not sure if its same as a 33 but would think it is. Total length of rod with fibre insulator and metal (like a washer) contact on end is 44 1/8". Total length of metal rod including square section is 43 7/8". Square section (swaged down) is 1" long. Length of rod to the centre of the circlip groove is 43 11/16". Circlip groove is 1/8" wide. Round insulator on end is 3/16" long. All measurements taken from lower end of the step on bottom of horn button plate. Hope this helps you. Regards, Kevin.

Hi Manuel, I have an original 33 and my horn rod measures 1118mm (44 1/64") from lower end of step on bottom of horn button plate to end of square section, this is over 1/8" longer than Kevins 34. The dimension from step on horn button to centre of circlip groove is 1108mm (43 5/8") only 1/16" difference here, the dimension from start of squared section to end is 32mm (1 1/4"). I am not sure but I think 33s are slightly different to 34s in steering column length. All the Best Michael

Only early '33 rods (and steering columns) are different than the '34 rods (and steering columns).

When I was messing with the new shaft in my steerig box, I had a telltail figured out. The main concern is the position of the fork versus the switch housing. I think the ends of the forks need to be about flush with the housing tube. If anyone can confirm, that would be a help to the OP.
