33 Ford v8 oil capacity

New 33 Ford on block, belongs to a fellow Gator V8er. He claims it took 5 quarts to bring it up to full mark on dip stick. This motor does not have a filter. As far as I know all flatheads only take 4 quarts. Am I missing something? Anyone out there with a stock 33, would you please measure the length of stock dip stick? Plese post your results of the dip stick. He is also has a bad oil leak.

Harry, your buddy has an oil leak, because he's over filling the crankcase, should be 4 qts, without filter. If it were my car, i would put 4 qts in it, and remark the dipstick....Ed

My 34 takes 5 qts. to fill an does not leak.

The owners manual will say 5 quarts.Ford says 5 quarts 32 to 48.

Look in the service bulletins for a page on the numerous different pans and dipsticks used on V8-s 1932--1935. A mismatch is very likely.
