hey guys i need a little help, i have a 33 ford truck im getting ready to build, in searching and prepairing to get a title ive found the vin says its a 34 yet the truck clearly is a 33 bumper to bumper, im sort of confused now as to how or what year to title it? any help or info?

Think they are wanting you to post the VIN (really serial #) with the last few digits as XXXs. In some states the serial number is what counts, not the external sheet metal, etc. Do you have a problem getting the title as a 34 vs a 33? How original is it, have you checked the serial number on the transmission? Does it match the frame number?

There is nothing unusual here at all. In many locations the vehicle was titled as the year it was sold .... sold in 1934 as a leftover (Remember how sales may have been slow during the depression).

No mystery. Perfectly normal.

its all original and yes numbers match frame and bell houing, i have no problem titiling as a 34 i just want it correct the vin is bbi8-573xxx its a original bb dump truck

It's also not unusual for Henry to put them together with 'what's on hand'. Very easy to imagine a BB18 being put together in the 1934 model year, with a 34 serial number, and using body that has the 33 features.
For comparison, my sedan, either 33 or 34, whichever you want to call it, has features of both years. Body tub is clearly 33, but with a few 34 features. Hood, grille, dash are clearly 34. It's clearly an original assembly, not put together from parts. Original paint, never a repaint, is on it, front to rear. Frame carries a late 33, or early 34 number, whichever you want to call it.
So, I don't find it very unusual for what you have. Title it either way you want to believe. My suspicion is that you have what would have been sold and titled as a 34, which happens to have a leftover 33 body. JMO

Just a bit of trivia to keep you from getting the wrong number on your registration, the "i" you show in your serial number is actually the way Ford made the number "1". See http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_serialnumbers.htm at the bottom of the page.

I got my '35 pick up from SoCal....the Calif title said "First sold in 1936", clearly a "left over '35....and was titled as a '36. Virginia DMV would not title it as a '35.

Another thing to consider, the BB likely came out of the factory as a "cab and chassis" not as a complete dump truck. It was also a commercial vehicle ... not much business expansion in '33 and '34. After leaving the factory, it would have to proceed to whoever would install the dump body.

All in all, being titled in 1934 is no surprise.

Hi; Jump in here, the '33 big trucks were Slow sellers after the '34s came out with Timken floating rear axles. Newc

Friend of mine in Kansas had a 1 1/2 ton early 35 truck with the garnish molding cab that was titled as a 36 and all of the numbers matched the title. I don't have any way of knowing if it wasn't sold until 1936 or if nobody bothered to do the title until 1936 after purchasing it for farm use earlier.
