33 coupe gas tank

Customer brought in his 33 5 window coupe for service. We may have to take the gas tank out to get cleaned. I am thinking that if it can be removed I would have to take the spair tire off along with the mount, the bumper and frame cross bar, and the rear valance. Will I be able to reach between the floor pan and top of tank to uncouple the fuel and capillary tubes? Can the gas tank be slid out the back in the space that is available? The V8 Service Bulletins nor my 1937 copy of V. Pages repair manual cover this.
Thanks

You are on the right track. The tank cover , bumper irons, spreader bar, etc. all have to come off. Inside the trunk you should find a small door held down by one screw that will give you access to the gas tank sending unit. Once everything is undone the tank should slide out after removing the bolts that hold it to the frame.

two bolts on one side one side of tank with a spring and bolt on the other, remember in what order the spring is attached on the bolt. 10-32 screws hold the hydrostatic sending unit to the tank. Roy Nacewicz sells the drain plug.

Would the access hole to the sending unit be behind the panel in the rear of the trunk with about a zillion screws holding it on? Thanks for the info on the the seller of the plug for tank, the one in it is weeping. I wondered why only one bolt on the drivers side, I will keep an eye on it.
Thank you for the information.
The gauge on the dash shows a 1/4 tank so I am sure something is plugged. The books we have do go into on servicing that part.

Thier is a access to the tickup tube in the trunk with a single screw to remove, the access door is approx. 5X3"

Thanks for the link to my build thread.

Don't worry too much about trying to work through the little access door - once the tank is dropped a little you can access all the connections for the fuel sender.

Mart.

Mart- You're my hero! I've been copying and pasting that entire thread into a Word Document so it will always be easy to find.

I found the little door, the last time it was opened was when the car was built in 33! It may have been a body off restoration, except for that door. I will fix that before putting the tank back in. :)
After all the stuff was off I pulled the tank back and with it resting on my knees disconnected the two tubes. Lots of crusty crap in the bottom, looks to come from the top as the plating still looks good on most of the tank. So its off to get boiled out.
By the way this coupe is an original 4 cylinder model.
I want to thank everyone again for their help.
