33 coupe door latch help

I was trying to lube the driver's door latch on my 33 coupe yesterday and the latch locked up. Both handles locked solid. Finally gave in and took the door apart to get the latch assembly out. The toggle from the inside handle that's under the door latch anvil (for lack of a better term) was jammed out of place. No way to get it back to normal without knocking out the rivet that holds the anvil and toggle in place.

After all that here's my question - does anyone have a source for this special, shouldered rivet that holds the anvil and toggle in place? This same rivet also holds one of the two upholstery door panel clips in place on the interior side of the latch mechanism.

Rivet shown in photos below.

You might try Brookville Roadster. They make a 1932 3 Window latch which is similar in design (totally different in detail). They might have some spare parts.

Last time I did a latch, I drilled the outside head off that rivet, then when reassembling the latch, I reused the old rivet and welded it.

I've also made similar pins by spinning a bolt in a drill press and "machining" them to shape with a grinder and files.

To me it should be hardened.Years ago I had to repair a pair of 32 sedan latches.I found small hardened hardened shoulder bolts at a Homelite chain saw dealer. The slot of the striker plate also needed repair which I Mig welded and reshaped.

I came up with a temporary fix that may become permanent. The hole in the latch plate is perfect size to run a 1/4" tap though and thread it. Made a bushing for a 1/4" bolt to match the shoulder diameter of the rivet. Threaded the bolt & bushing into the plate. Added a lock nut on the back side for insurance and cut off the bolt flush with the nut. I did lose one of the two interior door panel clips, but that shouldn't be an issue. Appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

Appears you have a lock mechanism just above the bolt (square hole) Have you tried to rotate the lock. Usually drivers side don't have the lock mech.

Terry,It doesn't have the lock mechanism. That square hole is for the door handle. Behind The little round hole above is where the lock mech would be if it was a RHD car latch.
