Looking at a real barn 33 or 34 Pickup find but I don't know how to tell the difference and I can't seem to get to the VIN. The left front fender covers up the top of the frame inside the engine compartment where I think the VIN is located. Any advice?

34 has an extra wide moulding beneath the rear window 33 does not. 34 has a chrome ring around the grill ribs and chrome strip from FORD emblem to radiator cap, 33 does not. 34 has FORD V8 on each side of hood louvers, 33 does not. everything else is the same.

Like Al says the '34 is a little more "deluxe" including some chrome trim on the grille and V8 on the hood sides. If the carb is a Detroit Lubricator single barrel carburetor it is probably a '33 since Ford changed to a two barrel Stromberg in '34. The left front fender has a little rectangular cutout inside the engine compartment which is designed to allow the VIN number to be visible.

A 33 would normally have the front hydraulic shock absorbers mounted on the inside of the frame rails and thus have a hole in the frame for the shaft to go through. The 34 would have the front shocks mounted on the outside of the frame without a hole in the outside rail other than the two mounting bolts holes.
