33-34 locking hubcap long strap measurements

Can someone give me some measurements on the long ******** a 33-34 locking hubcap strap? Width and overall length? Trying to get 35 strap to work on 6.50 x 16 spare tire. Too short. Wondering if I could make 33 or 34 work on the 35 with larger tire.

the two piece band for 35 (48-18304) was used for the 6:00-16 and was also used for 33-34 on their smaller 5:50-17. I have been told they are the same band. The 33-34 restoration book list the 33-34 band as slightly smaller but they also list it as 40-18304 but that part number is for the band and lock. The band itself for 33-34 did not have a part number since it was sold with the lock as an assembly, by 35 Ford decided to sell the two piece band without the lock and this is why it has a 48- prefix.

;) These part #'s match the info in my June 1935 parts book with an astriek on the 40-18304 to specify color . # 48-18304 is listed as the band only and shows 33-35 with no astriek so it would be black only ? Muddy waters already starting . In my March 1934 parts book only the 40-18304 assembly is listed and there is no astriek so it was only sold in black at that time . Info in the 33-34 restoration book contradicts this  The 1935 book also lists 48-18305-A lock assembly as being for models B , 18 , 40 , 46 and 48 . 1932 - 1935 . This is an excellent example of how later parts books muddy the waters on earlier stuff . Enough rambling so here are measurements : Measured width on numerous short and one long strap = 1 3/8 on the flat parts and slightly less where the stiffening rib is pressed in . The short straps are all very close to 10 1/4 and are 33,34 & 35 's . Only have one long 33 loose and it is the same width and is 23 3/4 long . This measurement was taken with a string going around the outside directly in the center and is overall . It is cold and snowy here so I'm not real keen on taking spares off to check others . On the painted strap thing on 33-34 I have numerous locking caps and only one has green paint - the rest are all black . Did you get the plunger springs working on the cap ?

My original '34 Ford has a Dearborn Blue band on it. Perhaps the accessory spare tire lock assemblies sold, over the counter, were all black.

David and Terry:

Thanks for the information. It is very helpful. The strap that I have, that I just picked up by itself at a flea market years ago measures "pretty close" to 24 inches. The straps seem to be the same width regardless of year, so I am okay there. I am going to tackle this problem in a big way later on in the week hopefully. With the 6.50 tires I may have to do a little surgery to lengthen it, but hopefully not.

Yes, David, I have the cap and springs working just fine. It is just the long strap that concerns me now. I will post how the project turns out.

On a different note, I am pretty sure I found my rattle. The sleeve on the right end of the tie rod was not snugged down completely so I tightened it up like I should have done originally and VOILA, NO MORE RATTLE.

Mike , That makes sense as I have long felt that 34's could be body color but not 33's . I have a strap and cap from a 34 that is green . ;) The few NOS ones I have seen were all black . David J :D
