32 window regulators ID

:D I bought some 33 cabriolet stuff from the Pikes Peak motors guys including the window's with 5-33 dated glass in them and the regulators that were with them were exactly like yours . They had ALL the stuff from a pair of doors . Like a dummie I passed on them because of the standoff mounting nuts { thought this meant they were 32 } and the different style . I think they sold the regs to a 32 3w guy . NOW I know better . The inner panel in that spare 33 door is completely different and needs the standoff type regulator . I don't have any 33's earlier than May cars and none of my cars take the standoff type regs But the extra door proves that there are two different regs for 33's . I did not know that before . :D We likes nu info :D . Dunno on 32's but your regs will fit a 33 cabriolet that has the flat mounting area . :D David J

:) Some info on the difference's in 33 doors that take 32 type regulator mounting nuts { tall & countersunk } and the later style { short & flat} Pic one takes 32 type and pics 2 & 3 are both May cars and take the later mounting nuts . 34's are like this also . FRONT DOORS . The " flat type " where the regulator mounts is real obvious in pic one . Pic 2 is a mid May 4d and pic 3 is a mid may 5w . The door in pic one came with the coupe in pic three so I have no idea where he got it back in the 50's . We definately have regulators that are 32-33 and some that are 33 only . Go Figure !! :) David J PS Looks to me like 33-34 cabriolet regulators might be a little easier to find now . Changing D-nuts is no big deal .

Picture 5 above is a late 32 production regulator that fits 32 and 33 closed cars plus 32 cabriolets.
In post #22 pictures 1 & 2 shows early 32 production right hand closed car regulators. Pictures 3 & 4 shows early 32 production left hand cabriolet regulators. Picture 5 above and picture 6 in post 22 shows late 32 production regulators that fit 32 & 33 closed cars and 32 cabriolets. There is very little difference between early production closed car and cabriolet regulators. It all centers around the square shaft for the winder crank handle. The shaft hold down diameter is slightly smaller and in a slightly different location. 32 early closed car regulators will not fit 32 cabriolet, but early 32 cabriolet regulators will fit closed cars. Also, parts books show only the later 32 production regulators as it was used to replace all regulators for 32.
It is my thinking closed car bodies were first off the line at one plant and then 3W & cabriolets bodies came later out at another plant and it was found that plant one regulators wouldn't fit plant two bodies so they modified plant one regulators to work in both plant one & plant two bodies. Then late production regulators were designed to have less parts for ease of manufacturing and for use in 33 closed cars. I see no mechanical advantage between the two designs. I have had 3 cabriolets, 2 with early production and 1 with late production regulators and noticed no difference in required cranking power.
It doesn't matter how much you know about these old Fords cause Henry has set enough traps along the way that you will learn something new every day if you look hard enough. He is looking over us and is smiling.

For those interested in what a pair of early '32 4-screw window regulators look like, there is a pair of them listed on 'the swap meet' side of this site. They attach to the door inner panel in a vertical position, unlike all of the other versions of '32 regulators.

I have a 32 Cabriolet with worn regulators. The gears are worn. Are repair kits available for these regulators? What other 32 regulators will work?
Found the Ford Barn today and expect to gain a lot of 32 knowledge here.
