32 steering wheel won't come off!

I normally don't post but I'm at wits end on pulling this damn steering wheel off. I've sprayed daily PB, WD40, acetate with transmission fluid and it will not budge. All that is happening is I'm screwing up and cracking the steering wheel with my puller.

Any and all suggestions will be much appreciated, thanks.

VeryTangled, thank you very much, I was actually as a last resort was going to build something close to the one in the post you lead me to. I have to admit this thing has me so out of sorts it never occurred to do a search. The fight will go on, thanks again.

No need to build anything. I use a bearing seperater and a two jaw puller. The seperater is like two bars with circles notched into the inside surfaces. You put the seperater under the wheel with a rag for padding and pull the wheel off. It looks and works like the Ford tool and the fabricated tool in the link. The seperater is avalible at HF. It is usefull for other things as well.

I got the snap on puller set from the 1950s that is made for the early cars that were not taped for a bolt type puller. It hooks around the back side of the hub and its coated not to damage the wheel

Maybe you can also try some cuss words in a foreign language?[/QUOTE]

Tried that in many different languages and in English with no luck!

Thanks guys, I'm open to try anything that doesn't damage the wheel.

On mine, I drilled & tapped the steering wheel so that I could use a steering wheel puller that I've had since the mid '50s. It's all under the horn button/light switch anyway. Just be careful of the delicate threads at the top of the steering shaft.

Luckily I have a KR Wilson tool made for that job. A clever person could take a pattern off the bottom taper of the wheel, turn a hardwood disk to match, split it and have a way to bolt it back together and using through bolts to something that presses on the shaft and or a puller, put strain on it that way. Until it pops loose I would leave the nut on the threads as the steering shaft gets thin at the end of the threads. The KRW tool looks like a big C clamp with a padded tapered part that engages with the bottom of the wheel.
