32 sedan top retainer seal

I need to install the rubber seal that goes on top of the top retainer(tack strip). Is the rubber seal pushed down into the channel above the nails? Is some type of glue used to keep it in place over time and help seal against rain? Any suggestions appreciated

The rubber strip was pushed into the channel in the retainer. The ones I've taken out did not appear to have any sealant on them. Might be a good idea to spread some sealer over the nails and let it set up before installing the rubber strip.
