32 Roadster Rumble Lid Stops?

Hi,

I installed my rumble riser and did a trial fit of my seat cushion and backrest over the weekend and found that the seat cushion back edge does not sit on the floor but is held up by the lid steel stops with rubber bumpers. I'm wondering if all these repros of the stops are wrong or correct.

I've shown what I have and what they look like installed. I also have a picture of a couple and what is supposed to be an original 3D Coupe floor and you can see that they are straight to the floor and would let the back of the seat clear the bumper brackets. Looking for input and hopefully a picture of the 1932 originals to see if I need to make something up similar to what you see for the coupe or also sell for model As.

The reproduction rumble lid stop in your illustration is correct for '32 roadsters, standard and sport coupes such as in your photo on the left. The stops in the deluxe coupe (3-window) in the photo on the right are entirely different with a male portion attached to the rumble lid and the female portion attached to the floor. Those components used on the deluxe coupe were not used on any other '32 passenger car body. I do not believe that anyone offers reproductions of the various deluxe coupe parts.

To expand, the roadster/5W used a stop to keep the lid from opening too far. The 3W used not so much a stop as a spring latch that kept the lid open. The striker on the lid is (i believe) the same as the back seat catch striker on the 1932 phaeton back seat, and is used in some model A applications too. It is available reproduction. The catch part on the floor is not available reproduction.

One word of caution about using the repro 5w cpe/roadster rumble stops on original floors. The hole spacing on the mounting feet is about 1/8" too wide. The holes have to be slotted to fit or the feet pinched in to mount to an original floor.

The male stop on the 3w rumble lid is similar to the '32 phaeton rear seat back catch. The 3w male stop is perpendicular to the mounting face. Where as the phaeton male catch is angle to the mounting face.

Thanks for the confirmation guys. The floor I put in a number of years ago and got it from Arthur Howell in TX.

I am surprised though that the seat hits the brackets. The seat is from Le Barron Bonney. I couldn't find this detail for the brackets in my, "The 1932 Ford Book" which is an amazingly great reference.
