If you have an early 32 rear, and are converting to a later rear, 35- 40 for instance, you can reuse the tubular early 32 drive shaft.
I have done this twice, with a 6 spline adaptor welded in the end I had to use a short tubular adaptor to make up the diameter. With the 10 spline end cut from a 35 type tube, I turned it down and fit it to the 32 drive shaft tube directly.
I find it easier to adapt to a tubular shaft than try and shorten the later solid shafts.
