It is.. It is making me question what rear end is in the car now, because where the tube bolts to the bajo housing the bolt pattern looks different.. Let me see if I can get a pic up.

Also is there no universal at all? I thought I was told there was one up front?

The diagram shown is of a later rear. Yours is simular but different in details. The torque tube flange is indeed round on your rear. The 32 rear is really a Model A rear and does not have the extra bearing on the end of the pinion gear. It has a driveshaft with a taper that goes into the pinion gear. The only universal joint is bolted to the transmission. It has a slip spline connection to the driveshaft. Your clamshell coupling does not split like shown.

does this make it more difficult to find different gears? say if I wanted to go towards a 3.73 or lower?

No, it does not make it more difficult. The 32 rear end is a model A rear end as far as the internal mechanicals go. Even the axles shafts are model A. The brakes, axle housings and torque tube/drive shaft are unique to early 32 only. This rear end was used on all B 4 bangers and V8's for most of the production year. Near the end of the production year, the new rear end assembly was introduced which has the scalloped flange on the torque tube. You need to get parts, bearings, etc for a Model A. Forget that it goes in a 32, that confuses the issue. I just finished rebuilding my rear end and went the 3.54 gear set. The ring and pinion is supplied by Snyder's Model A parts in Ohio. However, you can get all the parts you need from your favorite model A vendor. They will source the ring and pinion for you from Snyders. This is another confusing area when it comes to 32. Everything 32 went through numerous revisions and in some cases a complete redesign, such as the rear end.
Good luck, 32's are fun

Go to the Model A forum and make the request for a 1931 Model A rear end break down. Yours will be the same as the Model A inside but the spring and wishbone mounts will be different on yours. Bruce forgot to mention that there is also a 4.11 and 3.27 rear end ratio available. I think I would use the 3.54 assuming you have a stock 3 window.
