'32 Rad Shell on '30 Model A Roadster

Working Class Zero

Ok, I know I'm gonna get the usual this has already been discussed, but I searched the forum for 45 min. with no definitive answer. So I have a 1930 Model A roadster, 1930 Model A Frame, 1937 Flathead. Want to run a '32 Rad Shell. WHAT RADIATOR DO I NEED? Stock Height '32 and no alterations to the shell either? Or shortened? Is it true that a '32 Rad and Shell fit with no mods on a 30/31 A and only need to be shortened on 28/29 A's? Refering to height and hood alignment and level etc. Any help is much appreciated as usual guys. Thanks!!!!!!

I of course have not purchashed and do not have an exsisting Rad or Shell yet, or I would just have a look see. Just tryin to learn before I spend. Hell I'm still looking for the body for the built chassis!!!

Kane, in all likelihood you will not get the response that it has been discussed here before simply because this is more in-line with discussions that would take place on H.A.M.B. or on a 'street rod' forum due to the nature of your topic, and the type of vehicle you are building. Ryan has asked the topics here remain focused on Restoration and Originality of the Model A, ...and that for questions or topics such as yours, he asks that people defer those towards the Jalopy Journal/HAMB.

Ok, I did not know that. I posted on the HAMB first like I always do, I just thought Ford specific forum? Even better. Ok restoration, stockers. Good to know, Thanks.

Yeah, Ryan made a statement ("We will stay focused on restoration over here. Hot rods and customs are for the hamb.") about that HERE, ...and also it is listed on the Forum Page where you initially found this forum. (Look at the bottom where it says Hot Rods & Customs). Still, you are very welcome to come hang out with us and discuss the "original as-manufactured" side of a Model A. You may just find that a "stocker" offers WAY more fun than what some would have you belive!:D

If you want to see just how seriously this limitation to restoration subjects is applied scroll down to the thread regarding speed parts for the model a or what ever the title is! Then you might want to check out the one regarding the Halibrand center section.

Kane,

It is nice to know from your profile that you are located "in your garage". If you update your profile to tell in general (here and on your HAMB profile) where your garage is located there maybe someone nearby with all of the parts that you could check out in person. My understanding is that the '32 shell can be used on the '30-'31 Model A without cuting by changing the mount for the hood hinge. If the shell is not filled (radiator opening covered) you need to relocate the neck on the radiator.

I easily put a stock '32 shell from Bob Drake on my '31. You will need to buy several more things, a light bar that has a kick out because the new grill extends out and I put '32 headlights on to make the front end look better.

You will need to trim the lowest part of the new shell so it fits the frame horns.

Bill,
Ha, Ha you are my choice for monitor! I agree totally with your position. Hmm, I guess 'sheet metal' Q doesn't qualify here...unless your making a boat tailed roundy round whatever. From what I've followed here for years, I've learned that: MOST guys here have a matured tolerance for off center questions about model As....and either chose to ignore these Q or encourage/share ... and that Most guys here seem to enjoy the best of both worlds by having stock/mods in their possession and chose to share tidbits of their vast knowledge/experience! I mostly like to sit back absorb any info offered ...like yours Bill;)!
