32 Project - Clutch Problem - Update

Well, I’m finally back to re-installing my drivetrain after all of the clutch issues. Got the 9” T5 ready clutch disk from Dick Spadaro, and a nicely made t-out bearing retainer from Cornhusker that has the adapter sleeve built in to it. Should not have any issues there. I did have to order a new bearing after trying to install it myself – after speaking w/Gary @ Cornhusker, I found out it should be pressed on. I’ll tell you what, though – other than a machine shop, nobody, not repair shops or parts places, have a press anymore. I remember when I used to go to my local auto parts store and they could do this for me. Not a big deal, just more of an inconvenience as the only machine shop close to me is about 20 miles away, Jimmy’s Engine Service. He took me right away and didn’t even charge me but I left some $$ on the counter so he could at least have lunch on me.

Pic 1: just a shot of the new clutch disk installed – I gave the setup some primer to hold down rust formation

Pic 2 – here’s the t-out bearing retainer standing next to the Speedway sleeve – you can see the sleeve installed. A real nice unit and I will never use a sleeve again, that’s for sure.

Pic 3 – Here it is on the snoot of the T5

Pic 4 – this is the point where the Speedway unit would have fallen off the end of the sleeve, at fully depressed or furthest point of travel – no worries now.

Pic 5 – thanks to some help from “jacksanddeuces” here and of the HAMB – thanks Jack! - here is my modified 39 pedal setup. The “stock” location in the cradle, the above one and one further back for variety. Movement is left to right in this pic. The push rod will ride on the bolt, washered on eithr side and a lock nut. I’ve also trimmed the push rod so it can “pass” through the original “U” area.

Pic 6 – installed in the car – it just clears the floorboard

Pic 7 – some have asked what I had done to regain the strength of the K-member after cutting it for the T5. The band that you see going over where the ****** would sit is pretty beefy (3/8-1/4” thick) and is bolted in from underneath on either end with welded on grade 8 bolts. I think I’ve recovered what was lost. Also, the frame section you see going rearward are 35-40 X-frame members that I have modified to fit the 32 frame, similar to the aftermarket kits that are out there, giving the K-member/frame additional strength as well.

Pic 8 – where I’m at now. I’ll be back at it tonight and I hope, I hope, I hope to be cruising this weekend ….

Lookin' good Tom, think you'll be ready for a drive to Dawsonville, GA. for the Moonshine Festival in October?

What's the date in October? I'm supposedly scheduled to doa show an armory near Annapolis, MD on Oct 23. Don't know yet for sure ....

If anything, my 40 Std coupe would be more appropriate I would think but there will probably be dozens there ....
