32 passenger grille shell

I have a 32 grille shell that is thin and rusted where the top of the insert meets the shell. With the insert in place it is not visible, but I want to repair it before putting it on my car. Does anyone know of a source for patch panel for these grille shells? Maybe someone out there has a totally trashed one for sale??? I am even thinking about buying a repo one and using it as a patch panel source. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated. I am sure a good metal man could make a patch panel. but welding is about the limit of my skills.

Make up a piece by bending it in a bench vice lay it on top until the shapes is right ,then cut /grind out the old rust .Then trim yours to fit like a jig saw butt weld it in ,finial shape it after with a pick hammer .
