'32 grill shell...

My brother's '32 has led a hard life. Both sides of the grill shell, where it gets screwed to the radiator have had the material pull out. One side, the piece that broke out is about 1/2" wide and 1" long. That portion was still attached to the radiator. The other side just had the side of the hole pulled out. That piece of metal is gone and someone just put a big washer in to stabilize things. Should I try to get someone to TIG the one piece back in? Or, try to make a larger patch panel and cut back to less fatigued metal? Or, try to braze a patch on the back side?
Also, one end of the stainless strip adjacent to the hood welting has had the bent threaded rod pulled off. Any ideas as to what to do there?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

If you need to see what those areas look like; I have some pictures of mine, in case you need to do some re-construction.

I would find someone able to patch the area bigger than that is riped out with new steel. If it cracked there enought to break off I am sure there is other cracks in the piece that came off and around it. Just make sure you find someone qualified that knows what they are doing, there is a big diffrence in someone that knows how to weld and a "welder".

Your problem is a common one on deuces, many of the shells I've had over the years have needed repaired in the areas you state. I have a shop that makes the proper patchs for the area, tigs them in and when finished you can't tell the repair. In the beginning I had a couple of shells that were way beyond saving and I used to cut patch panels from them to fix shells. finally ran out of those. I also just fixed one using parts from a Brookville second.
