nice job,I would powder also it would last forever (almost) remove coating at all grounds and use star washers. Harold, Ca.

Yes powder painting will last a long time, however in my opinion it will cost a lot of money.
For many of us amateur restorers you could consider using a "Rust" paint such as Tremclad . before I committed to that system I questioned several restorers, and they reportd that it had lasted twenty years plus, and they were very happy. If you do need to do some refreshing you can either use a brush or spray can , and it will blend in very well.
picture shows my frame and a happy restorer, Byron.

I was surprised how economical it was to have my frame powder coated. They first burned the old grease off in the burn off oven and then sand blasted everything to bare metal. They plugged all threaded holes with silicone plugs to keep coating off of them and both primed and powder coated the entire frame for $275.00.

Ross, Do you know if they've come up with a filler for rust pits that will take the high temperature when powder coating? A few years ago there was nothing out there . Thank you, Dennis/Arkansas

you may want to try a product called "lab-metal" made by Alvin. i believe it`s powdered aluminum in a binder, it will survive the temps used in powder coating.

I used brass on the wheels that I had powder coated. I just had them sand blasted and brazed the rust pits up and sanded them down with flap wheels. This will take all the heat and more that powder coating requires. On frames, wheels and any other heavy metal the heat of brazing will not be a problem with distortion and there should be plenty of metal left to allow a good surface finish.

I used JB Weld to fill and smooth out my '32 frame before powder coating. Worked great! This was on the recommendation of my powdercoater.
