It's a typical '36 pump. When you remove the pump to rebuild it and remove the pulley and impeller, you'll want to clean the pump casting thoroughly and any crack will then be obvious or you could have it magnafluxed to test for cracks.

OK, I’ll give it a try and see where this rabbit hole leads me. By the way, any idea why they would have put a 36 water pump on a 32 Ford?

From what I can see of your engine the cyl heads are not '32. '32 w/pumps are one yr only and have a longer neck. Most of the time over the last 90 yrs w/pumps it probably didn't matter to the owner. The 33-36 pump interchanges .The upper rad hose would need replacing also .That plug on your pump designates it as 35-36 and is for the temp gauge probe. PS, The distributor is not '32 V8 either.

Here is a pic of the correct '32 pump on this engine.Sorry I couldn't find a better pic

Since the '32-'36 water pumps are all interchangeable (right side to right side, etc. and some service versions that worked on either side), the earlier versions were no longer carried as service parts, only the last version, which had the most applications.

Add the ignition coil, spark plug wires, and spark plugs to the list of non-'32 parts in your photos.

I wouldn’t be surprised. I always suspected that there were some mishmash going on under the hood. Here are some more photos. It looks like there is a drain **** at the bottom front of the engine that turns but I can’t figure out how to release it and drain the block.

There should be drain **** on the other side also or a port for one.Are they at an angle or pointing straight down?.There is a tab on that drain **** .A small crescent wrench can be used to carefully turn it 90 degrees to open it and drain the coolant.

I've rotated the tab 360 and nothing comes out. The shaft coming out other side of the draincock turns with the tab so I know the internal mechanism is moving.

Given the location of the drain ****, the engine block is the '33-'36 variety, the cylinder heads are '36 plus service heads for use with domed-top pistons, the water pump on the right side is the '33-'35 variety, and the intake manifold and everything attached to it is post-'32 with the exception of the fan mounted on the front of the generator.

The drain **** may be plugged up with rust or other engine block debris..

Here's a clearer photo of a '32 water pump without non-32 items in the photo as well.

So it sounds like getting a replacement 36 pump for the one that is leaking on the driver side (is that left or right?) is probably both cheaper than magnafluxing mine and wont detract from the correctness of the vehicle as it currently stands. Correct?

Perhaps this been mentioned....the repop pumps have better implellers and superior
seals....do yourself a favor and change them both. Include a system flush while your at

it....3rd Gen and VanPelt ( in your back yard ) as well as others have them.
