32 Ford drive shaft & pinion removal

My original 32 Ford ring and pinion are toast. Got the rear end out, axles & center section out of the housing. Torque tube off, large lock nuts loose. Does the pinion come out the front of the housing? I've done Model A rear ends before the pinion and drive shaft come out through the side of the housing. It looks as if there's a tool that pushes the pinion still on the drive shaft out the front of the housing. Thanks for any advice.

Maybe it's your choice of words, but it is difficult to envision the pinion and drive shaft coming apart through the side of the ring and pinion housing when there is no opening in the side of that housing to accommodate such a removal.

The pinion and driveshaft are remove straight ahead and yes, there was/is a K.R. Wilson too to accomplish that. It is shown along with instructions and illustrations of its use as well as the tools for re-installation (heat required) on page 59 of the September-October, 1932 Service Bulletin, which is readily available as an inexpensive re-pint.

Yes, Im used to working on Model A's and the pinion and drive shaft are removed through the side of the center housing. You can check with several how to Model A books. The large lock nuts will slide off the a ModelA drive shaft but the 32 drive shaft is much thicker.
I put my torch on the busted pinion with an old nut on the end of the drive shaft, a whack with a hammer loosened the drive shaft from the pinion. So all is good, everything is apart. I have a dozen or more Model A ring & pinion sets so I'll find a good set & put it back together. Somebody added a high-speed gear set to this rearend and didn't set it up properly.

I just double checked the pinion cannot be removed through the front on the early 32 rear end. The pinion is larger than the opening. I believe the larger, later rear ends that opening is larger so the pinion can be removed along with the stub splined drive shaft out the front.

I'm in agreement with DavidG, on A's and V8's the driveshaft and pinion come out the front. In fact, with the proper tools it can be done without separating the axle housings from the banjo. You have to remove the bearing race with the pinion.

I've never seen anyone remove the driveshaft and pinion as shown in Les's book. I guess that's how you do it without removing the race.

I've now removed and replaced both the pinion, the race and bearings.
