32 firewall mat install

I have a fiberglass firewall mat cover and am getting ready to install, I need the fasteners that hold it to fire wall does anyone know where I can get them? Also is the gas pedal assembly the only thing I need to install before the mat goes in?
I have David’s book but I don’t find anything about this
Thanks

I would call Michael at Third Gen, I was just looking to see IF he had the 32 insulation pad hardware and link it for you but didn't see it at quick glance. There are like 8 or 12 special bolts for the "original" inside firewall insulation pad and they bolt through the firewall with the nut and lock washer under the hood. There are also a few large "cupped" type washers for the choke and throttle rod to run through and I think the speedometer cable as well. Its been a long minute since I messed with mine SO I am searching deep in my memory banks. I think that was all that goes on or through the pad?? Maybe DavidG will correct me further!!!! But I think Michael will have the hardware kit and maybe the cupped washer too.
*****UPDATE*******

Its Third Gen's kit # R-0701 for the special bolts and nuts

In David's book #1, page 11-6, first complete paragraph. The bolt #B-35362 is in book #2, A-11-36.

As Glenn notes, both the early and late fasteners are cited on page 11-16. I believe that thirdgenauto.com has reproductions of the late truss head shoulder screws as well as the 1/4-20 hex nuts and lock washers. The early 1/4-20 flat head screws are easy to find, but the 7/8" diameter countersunk cup washers are a bit of a challenge. Both early and late fasteners had an S-2 finish (black oxide).

Thanks fellows, mine is early, does anyone have a picture of the cups?
what all bolts to the firewall before I install mat? gas pedal ect.
Thanks again

Nothing attaches to the inside of the firewall before the installation of the mat.

Do you man the lipped cup used with the gas pedal assembly, assuming that your car is a V8?

Thanks Randy. I looked at them on eBay and they look jus like model A floor board screws and washers, if that’s the case I have the model a screws and washers but would have to find nuts

I think that the pre-'33 floor board screws are #12-24s, not 1/4-20 like '32 firewall screws.

You need five cups in total for a Model B. One for the gas pedal cross shaft and four for the attachment of the vibration dampner on the outside (engine compartment side) of the firewall.

Also be aware that the two semi-circular areas where the instrument panel attaches to the firewall should be cleared of any insulation or the dash panel will end up touching the face of the instrument panel, which it was designed not to touch one another.

Randall,
I just finished installing a fiberglass cover and insulation in my 32 V8 Tudor firewall. I sent you a PM.

Here is a pic of an unmolested pad still on the firewall in a 4 cyl car. The 5 cupped washers are clearly visible. The coil will have to be reinstalled also as well as the wiring loom.

Sheldon,

Thanks for the very helpful photo.

Noe also that not only is there no insulation where the legs of the instrument panel attach to the firewall but also six cutouts in the "chicken-track" cover to provide a metal-to-metal contact between the legs of the instrument panel and the firewall.

One other suggestion is to install all of the rubber grommets for the coil wire, speedometer cable, windshield wiper motor vacuum line, etc. in the various holes in the firewall before installing the pad. That reduces the risk of the grommets coming loose and dropping down between the back of the firewall and the pad where in the extreme they become un-retrievable. Follow up by installing everything from the back of the pad to the front of the firewall.

I realize that that suggestion contradicts what I wrote in #6 above.:)

Hi Randall, you may want to call 3rd Gen. I sent them an email over a week ago asking to buy specific parts with numbers but got no reply.

Glenn

Thanks Glen I have called several time and get recording, can't leave a message, this is the hardest place I have ever tried to order from

IF you're calling at the given operating hours of business, IF you hold on the line after the message comes on there is a brief pause and then the phone rings again and it is answered. Maybe you just didn't wait long enough??? I talked with Michael the day before yesterday, twice. Now for email, that did take a bit longer and he informed me that he was "catching" back up to his email BUT lots and lots to weed through and apologized for the delay in responding to mine!!!
