32 Break-in

I've been driving the 32 as much chance as I can get, trying to "break-in" the car before a longer trip at some point. The wife and I were in it all day Sat - went to Lowe's and brought home a 6' piece of counter top stuck out of the trunk for her new sewing table. We then went to the fabric store and brought home a bolt of fabric she'll use for new curtains, again with it sticking out of the interior. We then went a third time and brought home a pumpkin and we went food shopping. I guess you could now say that it's a multipurpose car!

Both my mechanical and electric fuel pumps went (at different times) - when the cheap-o electric unit went I was just at the end of my block. Had to push it home .... .... I installed a new, better electric pump and I'm waiting on my rebuilt mechanical unit from Charlie/NY. After the first cruise and the car died, I either lost the 12V generator, voltage regulator or both - anyway, I replaced the gen with a Powergen and left the voltage regulator for the "look". This has worked great so far.

It has been getting a bit cooler so with some help from a friend of mine, I got the top installed this past Sat night. I then finished up the little upholstering of the package tray where the top bolts to the body. I haven't been able to try it out yet - been raining since I installed it! Since I have never really driven a car with a chopped top, it may take a bit of getting used to - hopefully I can try it out tonight .... check out the pics .... Looks like side curtains of Lexan should be a fairly easy install - I will post a writeup when I do it ....

There's been some talk here on the 'Barn regarding the Pertronix units for earlier front mount distributors. I bought a Pertronix conversion setup for the crab distributor from the Pit Stop Gary several years ago that I'll now put together on a spare crab unit as it does require some modification of the unit. I also need to replace the amp, fuel and speedo gauges (they all died or never worked), and probably install a hood top (no sides) for longer trips.

Enjoy the pics - I hope to drive it to the Florida Fordbarn event in February so I'd better get those side curtains going! We'll see you down the road ....

Looks great with the top, Tom! Sounds like standard "break in" issues to me. I've got 7k on my roadster so far and I'm still "breaking it in!" haha!

Hya Lee!

Thanks, boys - yeah, I'm still breaking in my 40 coupe after 6 years as well!!!

I'm going to have to cruise on up to B-flo and make a visit, thunderbirdesq - that was an old stomping ground of mine when I was going to grad school. Best man in my wedding still lives in Williamsville ....

Tom, Andy is just a stones throw from the NEW UB campus. You better go quick though, I hear it gets a little brisk up there in Buflo. I've had the frostbite to prove it.

Anytime you're in the area, give me a holler Tom. And yes, the weather is starting to turn a bit here, ugh... time to tune up the snowblower!
