32-36 Ford Front Axles

Are all of the 32 to 36 Ford front axles the same if they came from a car? I know the 32 heavy axle is different but other then that is it all the same? I'm looking for one and every person I talk to who has one from a 35 or 36 says the measurements are different then the 32 to 34 axle measurements.

I've looked at the Ford green book and they look the same, also many sites online say they are the same.

What am I missing here?

They are the same with same dimensions of course between all the holes. Ford didn't bother to change the PN cataloged between heavy and light versions even.
The dimensions are different enough between the various basic generations of axle in the measurements between perch holes and king pins that you can easily determine a proper '32-6 with a rough tape measure measurement.
Once you have seen a few, you can make the call visually by eyeballing the span from perch pin to king pin, which is the most conspicuous difference.

I do also, that's what's confusing me when trying to buy a axle and get measurements from people without seeing the axle in person. The Ford green book does set the 35 to 36 pickup axle and parts to its self. That's the only difference that I can come up with.

On the pickups...No! Commercial/pickup also uses the same '32-6 axle. The different axle called out in the book is for trucks, meaning in Fordspeak the big trucks, which are on a much larger and entirely different frame with all running gear except engine different from car. Aside from number of spring leaves and maybe the occasional bracket or hole, '35-6 pickups in the commercial line use same frame and same '32-6 axle as cars.

Here's a good pic for reference....

Thanks guys. I have seen that picture of the axles a few times along with some others. I've had a few leads on some 35 & 36 axles but when the guys go and measure them and take a picture of the tape measure laid from perch to perch the measurements come up matching the 37 to 41 axles even though they tell me that they took the axle out of a 35 to 36 car.

One guy even went as far to say that the old Ford green book isn't correct and to look into the fast moving catalog which goes into more details. I asked what's the fast moving catalog or what reference are you looking at but never got any reply back.

The fast-moving catalog has vastly less detail...it covers maybe the top 20% of parts in terms of sales volume.
Part number info on dates of application changed only when Ford started selling a later part to replace an early part, as with fuel pumps and such. That is not possible here because 1937 and up axles cannot be fitted into a '32-36 of any sort without changing everything that attaches to the axle.

Rough dimensions, king pin width...perch width: These are quick and dirty numbers sufficient to ID a fleamarket axle, not engineering specs!

'32-6: 51 3/4...36 3/8

'37-41: 50...38 1/2

'42-8: 52...40 5/8

Also, perch boss end to end is 2" on '32-6, 2 1/4" on others. Differences are substantial enough to be unmistakable even with a yardstick.
