312 vs 352

Weight-wise I read somewhere that an FE (352) comes in at 650 lbs and a Y-block at 625. Not sure about the dimensions, though.

Both engine series now have several aluminum parts available that were not available back when they were near new. The FE can be made to have much more power simply because they came in much larger sizes. Both can be made very reliable and spirited to drive.

The 312 Y block is nice but speed parts cost a lot more than Fe parts . The Fe you can get a 390 crank and built it a lot cheaper than the Y block . The Fe also has a ton more options than the Y block . The Y blocks are still very nice engines but don't expect big HP from them without very deep pockets !
If I was going to build an engine I would really go with another choice !
Just me honest opinion .
