I'm sneakin' up on the main seal in my 56 T-Bird . I think I've got it surrounded and I'm ready to attack. But I'm not sure how to remove oil pump tube that is mounted on the side of the oil pan. How do I loosen/remove the large fitting on the side of the pan? Should I loosen the one on the pump as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Loosen the pipe where it goes in to the pump enough to pull the nut away from the pump. Then the pan can be lowered enough on the studs to move it frontwards to get the pipe out of the rubber bushing in the pump. The pan gasket set should have a new rubber bushing. Be careful to not over tighten the nut on reassembly.
