31 Slant Windshield Cabriolet Side Window Frames

I am planning to chrome plate the door window frames. I have removed the glass (which was safety glass) without breaking them. The frames are solid but there are a couple of spots that had rust pitting inside where the glass bedding must of retained moisture. Thinking ahead, I am afraid that the chrome plating process may open up a few pin holes. I have the following questions:
1. Is it possible to make a weld repair using pieces of new metal or will I find the metal is too thin?
2. Is anyone making new frames out of SST?
3. What other alternatives should I try if the plater tells me they can't work with the original frames?
4. Has anyone recently had these parts replated and what should I expect for the cost.

Thank you for your suggestions. Ed

Bill Underwood (oldbluoval) makes new window frames from stainless. Prices are in the last Cabrioletter from the Cabriolet Club.

I make A&B stainless
C are mild steel
I can provide the channel in mirror bright SS but you’ll have to find someone experienced so that the welds will disappear. I lost my welder and I’m not good enough on tig to satisfy myself……
The channel itself is expensive ….my supplier tripled the cost of the raw materials in the last year. Mild steel channel is much less expensive outright.
