truck on BAT has a folding top and owner insists in 31 that they did fold.

any verification pls? I was under the impression that all 4 yrs had a fixed top.

thx

If the Seller is advertising it as a RPU or a Roadster Pick-up, you can tell him Ford never offered such a thing. The 76B was an Open Cab Pickup.

As for Ford offering a 76B with folding irons, ...well Ford never offered that either. ;)

thank you Brent- I like my info to be accurate.

that is quite important for this site for all of the future.

I have owned my '31 RDPU for 50 years and to the best of my knowledge Ford never produced a folding top. I believe LeBarron Bonney made one but it was not a copy of an original.

A folding top has nowhere to seat. It would not quite look all that well if modified for one. The top can be removed to go open as long as it has some sort of quick fasteners to disconnect from the back of the cab. I've seen more than a few done this way and some hot rod setups had fabricated tops and irons to get a folding top that could seat close to the back of the cab but that stuff was all custom fabricated.

well I suspected such. there is an open pickup on BAT and the guy swears Henry made the folding top in 1931. doesnt want to hear differently...........

The tops were removable by 1931. I am not sure how early it started.

Originally, the 1928 and 29 open cabs had the top material attached to wood tack area on the back of the cab. Some trimmers add snaps or the twist lock type fasteners so they can be removed like the later model As. It's nice to be able to remove them for special occasions but not so much for the purist folks. That stuff is up to the individual owner.
