what's the paint code for the brewster green that seems to have a olive tone to it, looking at pics no two paints are the same. Need to get paint mixed, want to get it right, paint costs to much. I have ford code C ,ditz-ppg Im1017 , dupont 246-6505 written down, anybody have a better paint code?

Kurt,

Your best chance at a 'match' will be have the paint shop scan several locations on the car's body.

Best to polish the car before, especially with dark colors, which scanners have a difficult time 'reading'.

While you have color codes, they do not represent the type of paint used on your car. If the material used to paint your car is now obsolete, best to have it scanned.

Paint base tints vary from one material to another, one manufacturer to another.
 
There is no matching old paint, this car is blue and i am stripping it, starting over with new paint.
 
Hello, auto color library has paint available in lacquer, enamel,and base coat- clear coat, but as you mentioned it’s not cheap.The newest Model A paint charts from the Model A Clubs are supposed to be able to be used as a match at a local automotive paint supplier. I also have a 31 roadster, I decided to go with black and apple green wheels, color options are definitely less than the 1930 models,only 4 available in 31 .

With a complete re-paint it's all up to you.

Most paint suppliers can make you a 3oz sample for a spray out. Not the most accurate sampling but good for 'love or hate it'.

Best Ford samples are still the ones found in the 1959 Ditzler 'Ford Production Colors'....if you can find a set.

Still frustrated ? Look at solid colors in 'Fleet Color Books' and European car companies......1980 Volvo has a perfect match to Bronson Yellow & 2015 Ford has the best match to ORIGINAL Ford Rock Moss Green.

What could I possibly know, I've been doing this all my life...........
 
Just ordered the ford A club paint chip book will see when it shows up, want to try to get the color right, i don't show my cars but i still want to be correct.
 
This is my understanding based on my knowledge of Henry Ford.
Henry Ford facts: One will find off year parts on your say '31 Model A.

Henry Ford wasted nothing. Heck, look at the wooden floorboards in your model A trucks. Those floorboards ARE the packing crate your transmission came in. Supposedly Henry Ford put out bids for his transmissions, and one requirement of them was the ability to 'recycle' those crates to use as the truck's floorboards.
On the note of recycling and reusing parts, one can only assume the same was done for the paint. Got some left over maroon paint? Here, let me put half a pint into this quart of black or Brewster green paint. LMFAO, Good luck copying the paints that dont follow a standard. Identical to your grandmother adding 'just a pinch' of spices, a dab of this and cup of that. Want an impossible task? Match these off the cuff, leftover paint mixers.
 
I need help identifying my color. I have four pictures here. 1st: the hood.
2. side doors.
3 &4, different angles of the stakebed bedframe at different angles. The last two have the best chance for color identification.
#1 engine hood|. Two doors and chair against wall #2| Stakebed bed frame #3. | .............................2nd row, stakebed bedframe again, #4.

those photos dont show brewster green- they are more teal, which is what I have on my 30 roadster and 35 phaeton. Brewster green is green not blue green.
 
Hello again, standard color for trucks in Model A era was rock moss green,a dark green,watch a old episode of the Waltons always had a Double A truck in it .Trucks were not even buffed or pin stripes that was extra cost . Brewster green is a dark green, I have seen variations on it too from olive green to a more darker green. After 90 years of changes in formula, hard to say what is correct, best to use the current chip book .Lincoln of that era also used a Brewster green but not sure if it is the same color.It would be nice to find a verifiable original Model A for colors but that’s like wishing to win the lottery.

Thank you, both Ronn, and gdmn. I pulled out my two doors for pictures today. Here they are. I will also be going back and editing all the pictures I posted with I’d numbers, just for our references.

I am trying to find the right color to paint my ‘32 AA. Ronn pointed out that my bed was painted teal in at least some places. He said Brewster green is green, not blue green. Not completely true. My quote from encycolorpedis.com shows that Brewster green does have about 20% blue in it. That 20% likely will never show its face. Unless, the paint stirring machine in the 30’s had a few beers before shift, a cigar in one hand, and a stirring stick in the other.
I am trying to resolve my conundrum of how Teal paint is on my AA. Or, someone backed my truck into a fence and the only paint they had on hand was Teal.
Another question I had was about original Brewster Green variants. Medium and light I know existed, but was there a dark?
 
Sh*t. This would be just too darn easy. Is there a translation table for model A Vin numbers and their respective colors?
Eg. 1-10. Brewster green
11-20 maroon.
21-30 blue
31-40 brown.
That would be great! Wait, that wouldn’t help me. I have an AA. AA’s reportedly also got all the spare parts when things were discontinued.
 
Hello, remember too that Ford did do fleet colors for orders of 6 or more from what I read , your trunk may have been a fleet order perhaps if that is the original color.
 
Looking in the Early Ford V8 as Henry built it , it shows for 1932 Mountian brown , Vermilion, Blue Rock Green,Golden Orange,and White. With Black fenders.Prehaps if your Model A was built in 32 they used the Blue Rock Green, now to find a color chip of that.
 
There is nothing coded into an A serial number.It is just that,a serial number.Starting with number one,and stamped sequentially up over 5 million.Look at the videos of the Ford paint line,there is nobody mixing paint in them.It is fed in hoses to the guns.Fenders,wheels,and lots of small parts were dipped in vats of water with paint floating on the top.Interestingly enough,they were not dipped downward,but the vat was raised up to submerge them,then lowered.I'm not much for videos,but the Ford paint line one was very interesting.
