I have a 1983 302 going in a 64 econoline van and wish to convert the oil pan to a rear sump pick up .....What will work??? mustang 302 or 351. I hear some have rear sump systems ,just don't know what will work ..Help
thanks John

You will need a rear sump 302, the 351 pan has a larger rear main. Look at an Explorer 302 pan. You will need the respective oil pick up tube and a cap screw for one of the main bearing caps to mount the rear sump pick up. It is all a bolt in operation. I just did the reverse, put a front sump pan on an Explorer 302 for my 60 wagon. The pan and pick up are gone to a fellow rodder that is installing a 302 into a 36 Ford (took out the "dark side" engine)

I was suspect of the 351 just didnt know for sure..302 explorer ???year??? any other 302 maybe mustang fox body??? Year ???

Mine was a 2000 Explorer. It only has one drain plug and that is in the rear sump. The Mustangs and some other models have drain plugs in both the front and rear portion of the pan (2 sumps)
