Just thought I'd post a little update on my 1930 Model A activity here. A couple of my buddies and I have been working on "Miss Annie" during the summer and fall of 2014.
--Stripped old poorly-done paint from the late seventies, and removed dents and some small rust spots in the body. Primed exterior surfaces to be painted later. Will be doing the car in black.
--Repaired/welded a broken spoke on one wheel. Blasted and repainted the wheels in black.
--Mounted brand new 19" Goodyears with new tubes and rim liners. Kept one older Sears tire for the present as a spare, mounted on rim in the rear.
--Flushed the radiator and refilled, adding antifreeze.
--Repainted the engine block Ford green.
--Installed new spark plugs, coil wire.
--Flushed gas tank and removed rust flakes (ongoing here), and cleaned carb and added new gasket.
--Painted inside body areas gloss black, with intention of doing interior kit later. Interior is "raw" at present..some old fabric on seats..no side or top cloth yet.
--Prior to summer, changed old transmission oil, adding new 600W from Snyders.
--Installed new Advance Auto 6V battery.
--Fired her up and let her run! Had it running this week, but not on road yet.
--Bought some AAbattery-powered magnetic amber and red LED lights to place on front and rear bumpers for added late afternoon safety when cruising country roads.
YET to be done: Restore top to original, as previous owner had put solid top on the car using an old Coca-Cola sign where the old top had rotted. Wood is still ok.
Remove old windshield glass and install new safety glass in all windows. Buy new winshield wiper motor and install. Work on brakes as needed. Replace the old aftermarket faulty ignition popout switch. Repair speedometer cable and do new decal on previously rebuilt speedometer face. Buy some more parts----floormat, original horn, bumper ovals, quail ornament, window cranks and misc. parts for window mechanisms...maybe turn signals.
Footnote: I fell on the workshop deck on Oct. 30 and broke my arm. Spent all fall in rehab from that injury, so just getting back to being active now. Not driven the car yet since my fall due to "lack of power steering".
