30 Tudor with a 12 leaf rear spring

Like the title says my 30 standard Tudor has a 12 leaf rear spring which it is not supposed to have. Searching tells me I have two doubled up springs. Is it safe to omit one each of the same length springs? Or, is there more to it than that?

For what purpose would someone put a 12 leaf spring in a Tudor sedan? I am guessing if I put in back in as is I would have one outrageously rough riding car once I get it back together.

Thanks for info everybody.

After comparing spring lengths I found that I have a duplicate of the spring that has the notches on it for the spring clamps. I guess I will leave that one out and possibly one of the short ones that is close in length to another , but not quite the same length.

Both reasons are plausible. The car originally belonged to my paternal grandfather and my dad was the youngest of 13. My grandfather was also from Georgia so I would not be at all surprised to learn that he might have hauled some moonshine or whoever he got the car from did. :)

Thanks for the replies Gents.
